WE'RE HIRING TEACHER-MENTORS & ASSOCIATE TEACHER-MENTORS
We are currently looking for Teacher-Mentors and Associate Teacher-Mentors.
The role of the Teacher-Mentor is the high calling to sacrificially serve the next generation of our city through executing the complete model of Elevate Indianapolis by investing a balanced 50/50% teaching students during the school day and outside the school day through life on life, year-around mentoring.
The role of the Associate Teacher-Mentoris to support the Elevate Indianapolis Teacher-Mentor staff in teaching students during the school day and mentoring them outside the school day throughout the year.
Both positions allow for opportunities to build long-term, life-changing relationships with Indianapolis urban youth, equipping them to thrive and contribute to their community.
FELLOWSHIP ON THE FAIRWAYS, A JUNETEENTH CELEBRATION
Earlier this month, we hosted our 3rd Annual Fellowship on the Fairways, a Juneteenth Celebration! The event took place on Friday, June 16, 2023, at the historic Douglass Park Golf Course, and it was a truly memorable day filled with celebration, community engagement, and historical significance.
Our event was dedicated to honoring and celebrating Juneteenth. It was a powerful way to recognize the historical importance of this day and celebrate this Jubilee Day of our nation’s history. We came together as a community to commemorate the emancipation of enslaved African Americans and highlight the progress we have made while acknowledging the work that still lies ahead.
On this day, students and community partners teamed up for an exciting golf scramble. It was a fantastic opportunity to enjoy the game of golf while fostering meaningful connections between individuals from diverse backgrounds. For many of our students, this was their first time playing golf…and yes we gave out an award for “Worst Swing,” because we are an organization that celebrates firsts, not golf skills.
After finishing the course, our groups gathered for lunch and to hear from guest speaker, Phil Edwards, Shephard Community Center’s Chief Engagement Officer and active Indianapolis community builder. Phil shared his own powerful story of overcoming struggles of being a teenager growing up in Atlanta, GA. After sharing about his lived experiences, he gave a word of encouragement to our students and guests to remind them that they too can overcome struggles just like he did and just like those early freed slaves had done after Juneteenth.
We are thankful to our generous Community Partners Anthem Medicaid and Cooprider Golf Management who not only sponsored the event but also provided community volunteers.
